Digital signature and e-identity technologies to enhance services in municipalities, cantons, and organisations

Our fast-paced era of technical advancements and digitization provides us with the opportunity to enhance our communities and facilitate the daily lives of our citizens. In light of the recent start of e-identity implementation by the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we encourage local governments, cantons, and other organisations to use this technology in the development of new services that will employ e-signatures, which will create a contemporary and effective environment for our citizens.

Digital signature is a critical component of the digital society, allowing for secure electronic document signing and decreasing the necessity for individuals’ physical presence in administrative procedures. This technology also offers a high level of security, thereby protecting the data of the citizens and reducing the chance of its misuse.

One example of how local governments can use e-signature is to implement electronic licences and permissions for various operations. Citizens might submit requests electronically, allowing authorities to process them more quickly and efficiently. This would decrease the need for citizens to visit offices, saving both time and money for each party.

In addition, the e-signature can be integrated into various services such as e-enrollment in kindergartens and schools, online payment of local taxes, and the like. This would not only simplify the lives of citizens but also improve the transparency and efficiency of the administration.

It is critical to emphasise that the adoption of such services not only improves lives of citizens but also helps to increase trust in local organisations. Citizens will value new technology that makes everyday life easier, while also relying on the security and safety of their data.
