Director of IDDEEA BiH Visits the Embassy of BiH in the USA: Addressing the Situation of BiH Citizens Subject to the New Immigration Measures

The Director of the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Almir Badnjević, held a constructive meeting with the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United States, H.E. Sven Alkalaj, as well as with representatives of the BiH Consulate in the USA.

During the meeting, the Embassy representatives praised the achievements of the Agency, especially highlighting the resolution of issues concerning old travelling certificates, which had remained unresolved for the past ten years. This initiative was launched during a meeting at the BiH Embassy in the USA last year, and the results have provided significant relief to citizens who had been waiting for this administrative service for a long time.

The focus of the meeting was on the current emergency situation with immigrants in the USA. Specifically, the administration of newly elected President Donald Trump issued an executive order on border security and immigration, signed on January 25, 2025, just a few days after taking office. This order defines the return of all individuals without legal residence in the USA to their home countries.

In this regard, it was agreed to continue the successful joint cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the immigration services in the USA, in order to resolve this situation for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the most straightforward and effective way possible. The Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of BiH will provide all technical support to the Ministry and other institutions, considering that the Agency manages and maintains the databases of all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including those residing abroad.
