IDDEEA

GIZ and IDDEEA BiH officially announced their cooperation for the creation of the digital identification platform

As part of the project Innovations and Digitization of small and medium enterprises/EU4DigitalSME, which is co-financed by the European Union and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between GIZ and the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange in BiH (IDDEEA) for cooperation and support towards creating a digital identity platform for biometric authentication.

With this support, the platform will be integrated with the existing central IDDEEA system for the biometric register and identity data register, as well as the existing central IDDEEA system for issuing electronic certificates and establishing of remote digital signatures on IDDEEA servers.

The digital identity platform, which will be used throughout BiH, will offer crucial services such as e-signatures and e-wallets, allowing users to manage and use their digital identities in a simple, safe, and efficient way. Individuals will gain greater control and accessibility over their digital identity transactions and interactions through this platform.

“The project Innovation and Digitalization in Small and Medium Enterprises promotes the development and implementation of various digital solutions and services to increase economic competitiveness in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this view, e-signature is a critical step towards business digitalization and can serve as the foundation for a variety of digital services developed by the private sector, such as e-commerce or platform solutions. As a result, we are satisfied with the collaboration with IDDEEA on the deployment of e-signatures, where our project can provide initial support,” stated Eva Näher, program manager at GIZ.

The Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA) is an administrative organisation within the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina in charge of identification documents, storage, personalisation, and transport, as well as the maintenance of the central register and data exchange between competent authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Almir Badnjević, director of the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina – IDDEEA, explained that the intention is to enhance administrative efficiency, encourage digital inclusion, and promote economic development by providing electronic services to all citizens.

“We are looking forward to our first collaboration with GIZ. We feel honoured that another international partner, such as GIZ, recognised our efforts and the potential of our project and chose to support IDDEEA BiH. This assistance in expediting the implementation of electronic services will be extremely important, allowing citizens to use new technologies more efficiently in their daily lives”, said Badnjević.

The project “Innovations and digitization of small and medium enterprises in Bosnia and Herzegovina/EU4DigitalSME,” co-financed by the European Union and the government of the Federal Republic of Germany, aims to create a favourable environment for the technological transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises in competitive sectors, through better access to innovative technologies, skills, and services.
