IDDEEA Strengthens Cooperation with the EU and Improves Digital Services for Citizens of BiH

The Director of the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA), Mr. Almir Badnjević, visited Brussels for a working visit, during which he held a series of meetings with representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina in diplomatic missions and European Union institutions. The goal of the visit was to strengthen cooperation in the field of digital transformation and modernization of services provided by IDDEEA to citizens.

During the visit, Director Badnjević met with the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E. Erol Avdović, to discuss a joint initiative between IDDEEA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH. This initiative aims to enable Bosnian citizens living abroad to activate their electronic signatures at diplomatic and consular representations (DKP), significantly improving the accessibility of digital services. They also discussed a proposal for amendments to the law on civil registry books at the entity levels, so that citizens of Bosnia and Heryegovina in the diaspora could electronically register newborn children and thus obtain a personal identification number and personal documents witho no need to travel to BiH.

Furthermore, Director Badnjević met with the Ambassador of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Mission to the European Union, H.E. Obrad Kesić, to discuss digital transformation projects currently led by IDDEEA. A special focus was placed on the possibilities of cooperation with EU institutions to accelerate digital reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As part of the visit, a meeting was also held with representatives of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), where existing and future cooperation projects between IDDEEA and the European Union were discussed. Key topics included the modernisation of e-government infrastructure, improving data exchange systems, and strengthening capacity to provide electronic services to citizens and businesses.

Furthermore, Director Badnjević held a meeting with representatives of the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD), where potential capacity-building projects that IDDEEA could implement in the future were discussed. These projects would enhance digital competencies, improve technological infrastructure, and implement the best European practices in the fields of digital identification and data management.

These meetings represent a significant step toward improving digital services in BiH and strengthening institutional cooperation with the European Union, with the aim of facilitating access for BiH citizens to modern and efficient administrative solutions.
