The digital ID wallet will soon be available to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Croatian technology startup Identity Consortium participated in the creation of a digital platform for the ID wallet, as part of a pilot project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will be available to citizens after the third phase is completed. The platform is being developed with the support of the Delegation of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, and it will be available in the first half of 2025, the Croatian startup announced.

The Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA BIH), in collaboration with GIZ, is implementing the project ‘Digitalisation and innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises in BiH’ (EU4DigitalSME), which was funded by the European Union and the government of FR Germany. The aforementioned project provided funding for the pilot project ‘IDDEEA platform for digital identity’, which set the foundation for the development, deployment, and usage of a digital ID wallet for all Bosnia and Herzegovina citizens.

As part of this pilot project, in cooperation with the company Adverta Pro d.o.o., the Identity Consortium, the initiator of a comprehensive solution for digital identity – Identyum, is responsible for creating a unique platform for identity management (back-end system and mobile application) that will enable the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to create and the use of digital identity for identification, for authentication on public and private services, as well as for digital signing of documents. Identyum will thus ensure compliance of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the latest European regulations and thus enable it to integrate more easily into the European digital ecosystem.

Director of IDDEEA BiH, Mr. Almir Badnjević, stated that: “The Agency prioritises digital transformation and sustainable development goals in light of the accession of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the EU. We seek to improve our operations and services in compliance with the law, international standards, and demands of the citizens. By developing a digital ID wallet through this pilot project, we are taking an essential step towards modernisation of our services, thereby significantly improving the interaction of citizens with state institutions and the private sector.

Furthermore, establishing compliance with the most recent European legislation puts Bosnia and Herzegovina on track for faster integration into the European digital economy, providing our citizens with access to a variety of new opportunities and services that were previously only available in European Union countries. Cooperation with Advert Pro and Identyum, through GIZ, allows us to enter this new era of digitalisation with complete confidence, knowing that our data is secure and that the services we give to citizens are dependable, efficient, and meet the highest standards.”

Robert Ilijaš, CEO of Identyum, adds: “The software solution will establish the necessary national infrastructure for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s digital transformation. This includes remote, automated, and legally valid electronic identification and authentication of citizens, as well as the ability to sign documents remotely. Bosnia and Herzegovina will thereby bypass numerous stages of development that EU nations have gone through and will directly join advanced EU countries that are now working on the implementation of their national ID wallets.”

Emir Glogić, CEO of Adverta Pro d.o.o: “In this project, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s digital transformation is greatly aided by the work of Adverta Pro and the Croatian Identyum. This collaboration holds particular importance as it will facilitate the creation of an exclusive digital identity management platform. This platform will offer Bosnian and Herzegovina’s citizens the convenience and safety of electronic identification, authentication, and digital signatures on documents related to public and private services. Through its partnership with Identyum, Bosnia and Herzegovina is enabled to deploy cutting-edge technology solutions that will expedite the country’s integration into the European Union, enhance security and efficiency in the management of digital identities, and provide better services to its citizens.”
