Valuable equipment delivered to IDDEEA BiH through the IPA project

The Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA BiH) strengthened its capacities through the support of the Delegation of the European Union, as part of the support activities related to the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II). This valuable equipment is extremely important for the improvement of the work of the Agency.

In addition, the equipment will support IDDEEA BiH in achieving the EU’s digital strategy objectives, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and the EU priorities set for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

More specifically, by managing ID documents and registers, this approach helps to strengthen institutions and uphold justice and the rule of law (SDG 16). This supports the development of infrastructure, technology, and innovation in the management of identity and registration (SDG 9), by facilitating the sharing of data and improving the effectiveness of the services offered by the Agency.

Strengthening the digital infrastructure supports transparency and accountability in public administration, which is in line with EU goals set for BiH and related to strengthening the rule of law and good governance, as well as expectations related to the reform and modernization of public administration in BiH.

Two devices meant for laser customisation of visual data were acquired and are currently included in the IDDEEA BiH resource pool. One allows the anticipated volume of driving licence and personal document processing to be completed each year, while another is a device for personalizing passports and encoding the contactless chip in the passport cover. The method of personalising passports has been improved, which helps the Agency become more stable and efficient and eliminates the necessity for shift labour. There are also scanners used for quality control of all documents.

This valuable equipment makes it possible to personalize 730,000 identity cards, 425,000 driving licenses, and 465,000 passports on an annual basis, which means that a total of 1,620,000 citizens will receive new documents. This strengthens the digital infrastructure (Goal 1), which improves the efficiency of the service, security, and reliability of the activities of IDDEEA BiH.

IDDEEA BiH extends its appreciation to the Delegation of the European Union for cooperation in the implementation of this project.
